Snap is launching a new Specs AI tool, and it’s coming to iOS and Mac

17 September 2026 at 00:40

Snap is introducing "Specs Intelligence," a new AI assistant that can connect other digital accounts to help you with things like work tasks and keeping track of travel information. It seems similar to AI assistants like Meta's Muse and Gemini's Spark, though Snap is pitching Specs Intelligence as an "anticipatory AI service" that "helps you manage what needs attention today, so you can make progress toward your longer-term goals." Like with other AI assistants, you can also chat with it.

Specs Intelligence is being launched alongside Specs, Snap's first consumer pair of augmented reality glasses. But it's also available on iOS today in pre …

I wore Snap’s $2,200 smart glasses

17 September 2026 at 00:40

My favorite part of wearing the Specs, Snap's new augmented reality glasses, was playing dominoes. Sitting across the table from a Snap employee wearing the same pair of chunky glasses, I could select a virtual domino with a pinch and then move my hand to drop it in place, watching the tile snap down in front of us on a real table. It was unlike anything I've tried in other VR headsets or smart glasses - the ability to sit with another person and have a shared digital experience.

Snap really believes in AR glasses. The company has spent more than half a decade developing the technology, producing two generations of glasses that only ever sh …

Sunsetting Textual IRC Client

8 July 2026 at 20:22

Codeux Software:

Textual is the world’s most popular application for interacting with Internet Relay Chat (IRC) chatrooms on macOS.

[…]

Textual supports very powerful modern technologies such as the latest IRCv3 specifications, native IPv6, client-side certificate authentication, and much, much more in an easy to navigate, clutter free experience.

Unfortunately (via Jan Lehnardt):

Textual has been sunset and will no longer receive updates.

Previously:

Update (2026-07-10): rob:

IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is having a bit of a revival in one of the communities I participate in (we ditched Discord), but there are not that many clients for Apple devices?

I’m currently using Goguma on mobile and Halloy on desktop, but they both don’t feel like native apps… (technology stack and especially UI/UX)

[…]

Luckily I recently discovered Mango, which looks very promising.

The Mac Genie:

I would still love to have a modern version of Ircle. Nothing else comes close as the best example of a Mac IRC client.

‘What’s the point?’ Teenagers give their verdict on Britain’s social media curfew

15 July 2026 at 17:04

All the young people the Guardian spoke to disagreed with aspects of the government’s proposed block

Sixteen- and 17-year-olds in Britain are to be encouraged to observe a midnight to 6am social media curfew but will be able to opt out by changing their account settings.

From next spring, they will be urged to refrain from using certain apps, with the block being switched on by default. But the curfew will not be mandatory and can be overridden.

Chien ou chat ? Voici lequel des deux est génétiquement le plus proche de l'humain selon les chercheurs

19 June 2026 at 09:00

Snap’s Specs look good on nobody

18 June 2026 at 20:15

Snap's new smart glasses are probably the most impressive bit of face-computer technology we've seen. They're not VR-headset huge; they don't have a big charging puck; thanks to Snap's many years of AR lens development, they're likely to have a lot of features right out of the box. (Yes, they're $2,195, but that may just be what all this tech costs right now.) Snap is clearly at the front of this race.

And then… you see the pictures. The pictures of Snap CEO Evan Spiegel wearing the new Specs, as the enormous and heavy stems smash down on his ears. The pictures of models and athletes wearing Specs, carefully posed to hide the obvious weigh …

Snap is finally about to ship AR glasses — and they cost a fortune

16 June 2026 at 17:50
Specs glasses on a white background.

Snap is finally launching augmented glasses for the public. Specs, which Snap describes as "a wearable computer built into see-through augmented reality glasses," will cost $2,195. You can preorder a pair of Specs now at specs.com with a $200 refundable deposit, and Snap says they're expected to ship "this fall" in the US, UK, and France.

This is a big moment for Snap: The company made a big entry into smart glasses with its original Spectacles in 2016, and the company has been toiling away on nonpublic AR versions of Spectacles over the past few years. CEO Evan Spiegel promised the company would launch consumer AR glasses in 2026 and even …

Chiens, chats et stress : ce que révèle cette étude pourrait surprendre leurs propriétaires

16 June 2026 at 06:03
Que vous trouviez du réconfort dans un regard fidèle ou dans un ronronnement discret, la science commence seulement à comprendre ce que ces interactions ont vraiment comme effet sur notre bien-être. Et ce n’est pas exactement ce que l’on croyait.
