Apple Music’s New Identity Turns Sound Into Moving Images
Apple Music unveiled a new brand identity on October 21, combining a revised wordmark, a sonic signature, and moving visuals shaped through physical experiments with sound. The project brings together Apple Music and TBWA\Media Arts Lab, with an original composition by British producer Fred again.. and NEST Acoustics providing the musical foundation.
The concept is described as “made by sound.” Rather than treating music as a soundtrack added after the visuals were finished, the creative process used audio to generate movement that could be filmed and incorporated into the identity.
The reveal explains how Apple Music intends to connect its visual and audio branding across different settings. The wordmark, musical-note symbol, filmed sequences, and short composition each contribute to that identity, while the rollout determines where audiences will encounter them.
Sound Becomes Part of the Image
According to Wallpaper’s account of the project, the team played musical notes through a transducer, which converts audio signals into physical vibrations. Those vibrations moved a shallow bath of mineral oil, producing ripples and shifting refractions.
The resulting patterns were captured on camera and became material for the visual design. Fred again.. and NEST Acoustics also developed a short composition that serves as the identity’s sonic signature.
The experimentation also influenced the composition. Fast Company reports that too many notes, or notes pitched too high, created excessive movement and made the image difficult to read. Those tests helped establish constraints for the musicians as they developed the sonic signature.
The result came from adjusting sound and image together. The team could observe how a musical choice changed the liquid’s movement, then refine the composition with the visual response in mind.
A Heavier Wordmark Joins the Moving Visuals
The refresh also changes the service’s typography. Wallpaper describes a customized version of Apple’s SF Pro typeface, with bold, lowercase lettering accompanying the Apple symbol.
The musical-note icon is another component of the system. Together, the lettering, symbol, motion, and sound create several ways to identify Apple Music, depending on the setting.
Those distinctions help explain why a single screenshot cannot represent the whole project. An app icon must remain recognizable at a small size. A video sequence can use time, movement, lighting, and audio to establish a different impression.
The new identity therefore needs to be considered both as a collection of individual elements and as a coordinated presentation. Someone may prefer the animated treatment while responding differently to the static lettering; those reactions concern different parts of the same design.

The Film Shows the Physical Production Process
A companion film documents the work behind the identity. iClarified’s coverage describes a 78-second sequence moving between the practical setup and the finished visuals.
The team submerged acrylic versions of the musical-note symbol and wordmark in mineral oil. Fast Company reports that the oil was selected for its viscosity, helping create the appearance of glass rippling under sound. Filming the moving liquid and refracted light produced the distortions seen in the finished sequences.
The behind-the-scenes approach makes the production method visible. It gives viewers something specific to examine: the relationship between a musical composition, a physical response, and the image recorded by the camera.
It also provides a useful distinction between inspiration and execution. Saying that a design is inspired by music is broad. Showing sound physically influencing the material being filmed explains how that idea entered the finished work.
The Rollout Extends Beyond the App Icon
Fast Company’s reporting identifies Apple Music, TBWA\Media Arts Lab, Fred again.., and NEST Acoustics as collaborators. It says the identity will begin appearing across original content and event programming this week, with marketing, product, and other experiences following later.
That describes a staged introduction rather than a single moment when every Apple Music surface changes. Viewers may encounter the new presentation in promotional or editorial material before seeing it consistently elsewhere.
The announcement is about branding. It does not, by itself, establish changes to subscription plans, playback quality, recommendations, or the music catalog. Those product details require separate announcements.

A Musical Idea Gives the Refresh Its Focus
The strongest part of the project is the clear relationship between its subject and its method. A service built around listening has used a composition to influence its visual identity, giving the sound and moving image a shared origin.
How successfully the elements work across everyday settings will become clearer as the rollout progresses. For now, the reveal offers a concrete account of creative collaboration—and a reason to look beyond the icon when assessing Apple Music’s new appearance.

Nocturne Cast Reunites for New York Premiere Ahead of Apple TV Debut
Apple TV brought Nocturne to New York City on October 20, hosting the crime drama’s world premiere at Regal Union Square. Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz, and Stephen Graham attended the event ahead of the series’ October 30 streaming debut, following the first-look announcement covered in AppleMagazine’s introduction to Nocturne.
The red carpet screening marks the latest step toward the show’s release. For viewers, the distinction between the two dates is straightforward: the New York event celebrated the production, while general streaming availability begins the following week.
The Ensemble Comes Together in New York
According to Apple’s premiere announcement, attendees also included Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan, Gary Carr, and Landon Valentin. Writer, showrunner, and executive producer John Hlavin joined the cast.
Apple’s photographs document the gathering, including appearances by the three leads together and members of the wider ensemble. The event provides a fresh occasion to revisit the series as its release approaches, rather than announcing a change to its previously established schedule.
That timing is particularly useful for anyone who encountered the project when its first images appeared in July. The cast and premise are now attached to a specific viewing plan, with the opening episodes arriving before the end of October.

A Detective’s Search Becomes Personal
Schreiber plays Jonah Lynn, a former soldier and homicide detective who leaves Philadelphia for a quieter life in western Pennsylvania. That retreat is threatened by serial killer Jurek Walter, played by Graham.
Beetz portrays FBI agent Saga Bauer, whom Jonah regards as a surrogate daughter. The search for a missing victim places her in direct confrontation with Jurek, bringing Jonah’s personal loyalties into the investigation.
The official Apple TV listing supplies another part of the setup: a person believed to have been one of Jurek’s victims unexpectedly turns up alive, prompting the effort to locate someone still missing.
Together, those elements establish a thriller built around both discovery and risk. The investigation has a concrete objective, while Jonah’s relationship with Saga gives the decisions surrounding it a personal cost. How the series develops that tension will become clearer when the episodes are available.
Two Lars Kepler Novels Provide the Foundation
Nocturne draws from The Sandman and Lazarus, part of the crime-fiction series published under the name Lars Kepler.
As the authors’ official website explains, Lars Kepler is the shared pen name of Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril. Both were established writers before beginning their collaboration.
The source novels give the adaptation an existing world of characters and relationships, but viewers should not assume that every event will transfer directly to television. Combining material from two books creates room to reorganize the story around a different dramatic structure.
For readers familiar with the novels, that makes the adaptation’s choices part of the interest. For newcomers, Apple’s synopsis provides the essential starting point without requiring advance knowledge of the books or their later revelations.
The Team Behind the Opening Episodes
Rowan Joffé created Nocturne for television and serves as a writer and executive producer. Hlavin developed the series for television and also writes and executive produces.
Tim Van Patten directs the first two episodes and serves as an executive producer. His credits include Franklin and Masters of the Air. A+E Studios produces the drama in association with Range Studios.
Schreiber and Beetz also hold executive producer roles, with Beetz participating through her Sleepy Poppy production company. The credits connect the leading performers with the production beyond their onscreen characters, while the opening episodes will establish the finished show’s pace and tone.

Nocturne Begins With Two Episodes on October 30
Apple’s announced release plan calls for a 10-episode season. The first two installments arrive together on Friday, October 30, followed by one new episode each Friday through December 25.
That gives viewers two ways to approach the series: follow the investigation weekly from launch, or wait until the season has completed its run. The New York premiere does not change that arrangement, and the full season will not be available on opening day.
For now, the event brings the ensemble together just before audiences can begin assessing the drama themselves. October 30 is the date to remember for the first public streaming episodes; December 25 marks the scheduled completion of the season.

New York’s first microdrama film festival searches for its audience
It remains to be seen if people really want to watch vertical content on horizontal TV screens, but many filmmakers and creators were confident that their latest projects would play well at Alza - New York City's first microdrama film festival. Founded by former Tribeca Festival chief operating officer Pete Torres, Alza, which took place October 16th through 18th, was billed as a showcase for the "the creativity, innovation, and growing cultural impact of stories made for the vertical screen." The festival featured a selection of microdrama and film premieres as well as industry-focused panels with executives who all seemed to genuinely beli …

Clayface review: Tom Rhys Harries shines in DCU body horror gamble that largely pays off
Light spoilers follow for Clayface.
Not many people would've predicted that a Clayface movie would be part of James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe (DCU). Three years after Gunn unveiled the initial DCU slate, fewer still expected a shape-shifting villain to beat heavy hitters like Batman and Wonder Woman to the big screen.
And yet, here we are. Four months after Supergirl bombed at the box office, Clayface feels like a crucible moment for a cinematic universe that's still trying to find its footing and drop a few spontaneous surprises along the way. And, while the lovingly crafted origin story delivers on the latter front, it doesn't fully succeed in helping to shape the direction of DC's fledging comic book franchise.
Face/Off

Clayface stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, a Gotham City native and an actor on the cusp of superstardom. However, while celebrating a career-defining Best Actor award nomination, Hagen makes the fatal error of sleeping with Mia Torrez (Joana Ribeiro), the girlfriend of high-profile mobster Markos Szabo (David Dencik). In retaliation, Szabo’s henchmen brutally attack Hagen, disfiguring his prized face and destroying his life overnight.
Clayface feels like a crucible moment for the DCU
Abandoned by his allies and, after he takes Szabo to court for his crimes, failed by the justice system, a desperate Hagen seeks out Doctor Caitlyn Corr (Naomi Ackie), a researcher testing an experimental, regenerative nanocell therapy. However, while the initial trial restores his handsome features, Hagen soon succumbs to the treatment's terrifying side effects, leading him down a self-destructive path of revenge.

It might sound strange, but witnessing a full-blown origins story is a rarity in this nascent comic book universe.
Sure, Supergirl was peppered with flashbacks of Kara Zor-El's life on Krypton, while Lanterns on HBO Max spotlighted John Stewart's journey to becoming a Green Lantern. Generally, though, DC Studios has deliberately shied away from origin tropes, which makes Clayface a rare exception to the rule.
Given that Clayface remains a mystery to anyone outside hardcore comic book circles, this focus on Hagen's transformation into the monstrous Batman adversary isn't only justified, but ultimately necessary.
Acting on impulse

More importantly, though, Clayface gives Harries ample room to fully explore this deeply tragic individual. Hagen isn't just a monster in the making; he's a man drowning in grief, wrestling with the overwhelming despair of losing his face and career overnight, and, eventually, his humanity.
Having lost his sense of self post-attack, Hagen attempts to literally and figuratively rebuild himself with Corr's pioneering yet hazardous serum. But, as the treatment heightens his darkest impulses, his emotional turmoil curdles into unbridled rage.
Clayface gives Harries ample room to fully explore this deeply tragic individual
This descent — from heartbroken victim to full-blown villain — gives Harries complete freedom to examine and showcase Hagen's devastating psychological unraveling. Running the full emotional gamut, Harries delivers a multi-layered performance worth talking about, brilliantly veering from fear and fury, to dismay and infatuation with an ease that cements his leading man credentials.
Moreover, Harries will leave you conflicted over whether you should actually be rooting for Hagen. Yes, his personal and professional ruination will draw sympathy, but Clayface's major narrative pivot point — i.e. the moment Hagen starts enacting revenge on his betrayers — quickly sees that compassion dissipate as his killing spree devolves from tragic accidents to cold premeditation.

But, this isn't just the Harries show. A large part of Clayface's storytelling success stems from the co-dependent, emotional dynamic between Harries' Hagen and Ackie's Corr.
A large part of Clayface's storytelling success stems from the co-dependent, emotional dynamic between Hagen and Corr
Initially built on a shared idealism of proving Corr's treatment is safe to use on humans, there's a satisfying earnestness to Hagen and Corr's embryonic bond at the outset. However, as their toxic obsessions take over — particularly where Hagen's unrequited limerence toward Corr, who he romanticizes as his savior, is concerned — their connection morphs into a warped romance with shades of Fatal Attraction, Phantom of the Opera, and a dark, twisted inversion of (500) Days of Summer.

While the exploration of this increasingly discomforting bond is worthy of praise, I was disappointed that the love triangle between Hagen, Corr, and her Gotham cop boyfriend John Borelli (played by the ever-watchable Max Minghella) wasn't examined further.
With a lean, sub-two hour runtime, there's only so much narrative runway afforded to this DCU Chapter One entry. Nonetheless, I would've liked to see more the burgeoning rivalry between Hagen and Borelli that's only lightly peppered throughout.
I'd level a similar criticism at the underuse of Hagen's new shape-shifting abilities, specifically with how his acting background influences his powers. Sure, he combines his craft and superhuman talents to good effect as his quest for vengeance takes over. Still, while the creativity displayed in the film's climactic, gruesomely camp set-piece is plenty of fun, I was left wanting more from a premise with so much theatrical potential.
Monster mayhem

Clayface doesn't fully lean into its skin-crawling body-horror potential, either. In a ironic twist for a movie about shape-shifting, the film suffers from its own identity crisis, never quite deciding whether it wants to be an uncompromising creature feature or a low-budget comic book flick.
I wish Clayface had leaned harder into viscerally repulsive territory
To be fair, there are some wonderfully grotesque moments that'll delight genre enthusiasts and leave more squeamish viewers wriggling uncomfortably in their seats. Moreover, while visual effects have an increasingly important role as Hagen's transformation progresses, it's the practical makeup that helps to really elevate Harries' performance, and add a real tactile viscosity and nauseating quality to his physical degradation.

That said, I wish it had leaned harder into viscerally repulsive territory, especially given its most nightmarish moments are featured heavily in its first, second, and third trailers. A few more of the 'show and tell' body-horror beats that Clayface handles so well, rather than deliberately dodging them with cliched, shadow-draped discretion shots, would've gone a long way to appeasing me.
Thankfully, the DCU's take on Gotham City doesn't suffer a similar atmospheric fate.
As grimy and seedy as any live-action iteration of the fictional megalopolis, Clayface presents Gotham as a stylish, neon-drenched playground. Blending rain-slicked noir aesthetics with a vibrant, comic-book palette, it creates a city that feels both oppressively dangerous and visually intoxicating. Its striking combination of Batman: The Animated Series' heightened gothic style and the gritty realism of Matt Reeves' The Batman is particularly notable, especially when you consider Clayface was originally pitched as a spin-off of the latter. Such comparisons will do little to assuage so-called 'merger bros', who want nothing more than to see Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight grapple-hook his way from Reeves' Bat-Verse to the DCU.
My verdict
Part-monster movie, part-Shakespearean tragedy, Clayface is a film of captivating contradictions. Driven by Harries' powerhouse lead performance, it delivers a surprisingly intimate and tragic character-driven story that explores the artificiality of fame, and puts a devotedly modern day spin on 'Feat of Clay', the two-part Batman: The Animated Series tale, it's inspired by. Even so, its hesitation to fully embrace its primary genre underpinnings, coupled with a few underbaked subplots and underutilized shape-shifting gags, holds it back from true greatness.
As a litmus test for the DCU, Clayface raises more questions about the franchise's broader direction after Supergirl and Lanterns. More generally, it doesn't reshape the mold for comic book cinema.
What it accomplishes, though, is far more intriguing: it proves Gunn and Safran are willing to take genuinely weird, character-focused gambles. I crave the next Batman, Wonder Woman, or Justice League film as much as the next person but, if we get more of these smaller scale offerings alongside their blockbuster brethren, Clayface will prove to be a risk worth taking.
Clayface is out now in multiple international territories, and will be released in US theaters on Friday, October 23.

Sci-fi legend Alan Dean Foster on his new futuristic adventure 'Lost On Paradise': 'It's paradise until you get there, and then maybe you mess it up' (interview)
Few names in the science fiction literary world carry as much weight and respect as author Alan Dean Foster. His award-winning 55-year career as a grandmaster of the genre continues with his latest novel from Blackstone Publishing, "Lost on Paradise", and we have an exclusive excerpt to share with our readers ahead of its release this week.
Foster famously ghost-wrote the first "Star Wars" novelization for George Lucas in 1976 and "Splinter of the Mind’s Eye" in 1978, which was intended to be a low-budget Star Wars sequel should the space opera not become a hit. He’s been a mainstay for go-to fantastic adventures featuring engaging characters, dynamic plotlines, and imaginative worlds for six decades.
In addition to crafting the screen story for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," Foster also wrote the novelizations for the first three "Alien" films, Disney's "The Black Hole," John Carpenter's "The Thing," "The Last Starfighter," "Star Trek," "Transformers," "Terminator: Salvation", and many more.

The near-future, off-world escapades of "Lost On Paradise" are the latest addition to Foster’s acclaimed bounty of bestselling standalone novels and series, including the popular "Spellsinger" series.
"Earth is crowded, polluted, and dismal," states the novel's synopsis. "Like millions of others, Jonos and Liina scrape by on her poorly paying job and what little money he gets selling items scavenged from rich people’s trash. Like millions of others, Jonos and Liina dream of Paradise.

"Paradise: a beautiful, clean, verdant world where three races live in harmony—at least, according to the videos sent back to Earth. There are the Eiquan, masters of astonishing technology; the Lusanata, hunters and farmers; and humans, who may be restricted to a few scattered settlements, but still live a life ten times better than those on Earth.
"On the run after a criminal act, Jonos and Liina finally escape to Paradise. It's everything they hoped for. Until tragedy strikes."
The genesis of Foster's "Lost on Paradise" is something that’s been percolating in his fertile mind for many years.
"I had this notion of a planet called Paradise where everything is perfect, and everything on Earth is seriously messed up," Foster tells Space. "There’s this couple who have problems; they’re poor like everybody else.
"And you have a unique male protagonist because he recognizes that his female partner is smarter than him, so she’s the brains of the outfit, and he supplies the muscle. Although he's not stupid. Too often you get a big, hulking guy with no brains. But she has a potentially fatal disease, and they’re trying to get away like a lot of poor people in the world today. So here's a place called Paradise. How do you get there? It’s expensive and difficult. And what happens if they do? Maybe Paradise isn’t always Paradise."

In crafting a deteriorating New York some 150 years or so down the calendar, it was important to stay sharp regarding developments that pop up in the news to avoid any internal logic conflicts.
"You just don’t want to get caught out by a scientific development that you postulate is near future when it's actually contemporary," explains Foster. "So I was very careful with that. But as you’re building out an alien environment and one that’s supposed to be perfect and beautiful, and then there’s maybe some things about it that aren’t, what do you introduce to show that?
"You don’t want to contradict yourself when you’re worldbuilding. That's a large problem that’s unfortunately common in science fiction," notes Foster. "Where somebody is breathing air, and suddenly they’re breathing methane, and it just doesn’t work. There’s a lot of different variables that come together that prove that Paradise is Paradise in some ways and not in others. A good example would be when the first Europeans reached Tahiti. The problem was that the people who entered this Paradise brought venereal disease and smallpox, to which the Polynesians had no resistance. So it's Paradise until you get there, and then maybe you mess it up."
Now enjoy our exclusive chapter excerpt from Alan Dean Foster’s "Lost On Paradise." Published by Blackstone Publishing.
Why shouldn’t a man and a woman in his and Liina’s position try to get to Paradise? Jonos mused as he treaded his way homeward. Though morning continued its ascent, the sun did not. Or so it seemed, when the omnipresent pollution often rendered day as dark as night. The gloom was useful for masking scavenging activities and for concealing one’s identity. It was less suitable for more plebian activities such as breathing and eating. Or living. Life on Earth sucked.
But on Paradise…
To emigrant humans it went without saying that Paradise was aptly named. Everyone had heard the stories. On Paradise a person could breathe freely. Without a mask, without fear of needing lung implants, without having to worry about inhaling a soupçon of strychnine or similar industrial pollutants. On Paradise food was plentiful and fresh, water devoid of contaminants. There was work, too, for anyone willing to adapt to entirely new surroundings, for those willing to acknowledge the much-talked-about overlordship of the dominant species. For arrivals willing to submit to the experimental, ever-evolving social structure, and to the limitations that were placed on newcomers, the technologically superior Eiquans professed an indifference that amounted to a willing welcome.
Or so the compendium of hugely diverse anecdotes insisted. That’s all they were, Jonos knew. Stories and speculation, rumors and conjecture. Ignoring the spotty rain that had begun to fall, he turned a corner and nearly ran over a couple who scrambled to get out of his way. The man he had accidentally jostled started to say something, quickly realized the size of the individual he was about to chastise, and mumbled on his way, dragging a woman—likely his wife—with him. Jonos paid them no mind. Half of him was engaged in navigating his way home, the other half in dreaming of what Paradise might actually be like.
In truth, he had never met anyone who had actually been to Paradise. He had never met anyone who knew anyone who had been to Paradise. That did not make the distant world any less real. The media periodically released vits and images of the place. These showed an Earth-like planet swathed in an atmosphere perfectly suitable for humans. The indigenous wildlife was fascinating, the few but thriving, improvised communities intriguing, and the rarely seen Eiquans themselves tall, gracile, and sophisticated. So what if they weren’t humanoid? They were bisymmetrical, anyway, highly intelligent, and by all accounts no worse than indifferent to the interests of other species. So beautiful and graceful was their slender physicality, so mellifluous their speech, that even though they were quite alien the idea of living among them held no fear for Jonos.
Anything, he knew, would be a step up from Earth.

Gabriel Basso Joins Julia Garner in Apple TV’s Guilty Creatures
Gabriel Basso is joining Julia Garner in Apple TV’s Guilty Creatures, adding another series regular to the upcoming true-crime thriller. Based on Mikita Brottman’s nonfiction book, the adaptation explores a Florida murder and the years of secrecy that followed. Basso’s character has not yet been identified in the casting coverage.
Radio Times reported the casting on October 21, identifying Basso as a series regular. The actor is known for playing Peter Sutherland in Netflix’s The Night Agent, giving the Apple TV project a lead performer already familiar to thriller audiences.
For viewers familiar with Basso through The Night Agent, the project introduces a different kind of thriller premise: a story concerned with a murder’s prolonged psychological consequences and the relationships surrounding it.
Basso Joins an Expanding Ensemble
Basso joins previously announced series regulars Garner, Lewis Pullman, and Maddie Hasson. Mary-Louise Parker is attached in a recurring role.
Those distinctions establish the actors’ reported involvement without revealing how the adaptation will distribute the story among them. Basso’s casting does not yet identify which person he will portray or how his character connects to the central relationship.
That leaves a meaningful part of the announcement open. A recognizable actor can bring an audience to a project, but the character description will provide a clearer indication of what this particular role asks of him.
Garner’s involvement extends beyond acting: she is also an executive producer, and the project was developed through Tomorrow Studios’ first-look arrangement with her production company, Alma Margo. Basso’s addition expands the cast of a series whose lead performer is also involved behind the camera.

The Story Begins With a Florida Disappearance
The source material is Brottman’s nonfiction book, Guilty Creatures: Sex, God, and Murder in Tallahassee, Florida.
Published in July 2024 by Atria/One Signal Publishers, the book gives interested viewers a way to explore the underlying case before the adaptation arrives. It is a nonfiction account, so reading it will reveal events that the television series may choose to introduce gradually.
According to the publisher’s description, the book examines the relationships between Mike and Denise Williams and their longtime friends Brian and Kathy Winchester. Their shared lives were disrupted when Mike disappeared during a hunting trip on Lake Seminole on December 16, 2000.
The account follows the suspicions that developed afterward, including Brian’s subsequent marriage to Denise, and the long path toward uncovering what happened.
Brottman’s background also helps explain the book’s emphasis. Simon & Schuster identifies her as a writer and psychoanalyst, and describes the work as an examination of the psychology of people living with responsibility for a killing.
That provides context for the adaptation’s premise without establishing exactly how the television version will organize events. The book’s chronology, perspective, and emphasis may be reshaped for the screen.
Apple Has Positioned the Series Around Guilt and Secrecy
Apple officially announced Guilty Creatures on July 6. Its description centers on an adulterous relationship, a murder, and the emotional burden carried by two religious lovers over 18 years.
The premise gives the series a different emphasis from a straightforward search for a culprit. It creates room to examine the gap between public identity and private knowledge, and how a shared secret can influence a relationship over time.
That is the dramatic potential of the announced material, rather than an assessment of finished episodes. Casting news cannot establish the eventual balance between investigation, domestic drama, and psychological suspense.
It does, however, explain why the supporting ensemble matters. A story spanning years of concealed wrongdoing depends partly on the people around its central figures: what they notice, what they believe, and how their understanding changes.

Craig Gillespie Leads the Creative Team
Apple’s official series announcement names Craig Gillespie as director and executive producer, with Stuart Zicherman serving as showrunner and executive producer. Sarah DeLappe is adapting the book for television.
Tomorrow Studios is producing the series. The project was developed through its first-look arrangements with Garner’s Alma Margo and Gillespie’s Fortunate Jack Productions. Brottman is also an executive producer.
Gillespie’s previous credits include I, Tonya and Pam & Tommy, while DeLappe wrote Bodies Bodies Bodies. Zicherman’s credits include The Shrink Next Door and The Americans. Those backgrounds offer viewers a more concrete introduction to the filmmakers shaping the adaptation’s tone, writing, and direction.
A Premiere Date Is Still Unannounced
The casting reports do not provide a premiere date for Guilty Creatures. Basso’s addition should therefore be understood as a production update, rather than evidence that the series is approaching an imminent streaming release.
For viewers following the project, the next useful details will be character announcements and Apple’s release plans. The ensemble is becoming clearer, while the adaptation’s precise shape—and when audiences will be able to watch it—remains to be revealed.

How to watch Bayern Munich vs Arsenal: FREE live Streams, TV channels & kick-off time for Champions League 2026/27, team news
Watch Bayern Munich vs Arsenal live streams in a classic irresistible force against immovable object contest at the Allianz Arena on Champions League 2026/27 Matchday 3.
Vincent Kompany's six-time European champions fell 3-1 to Mikel Arteta's eventual runners-up just under a year ago, and Die Roten want revenge.
Kompany wasn't his usual effervescent touchline presence for the 6-1 Bundesliga demolition of RB Leipzig at the weekend, the Bayern boss suffering from illness and a painful hip. Luis Diaz's lethal hat-trick will have improved Kompany's mood, though, with the Colombian's first goals since August vital tonight with Michael Olise – 14 goal involvements in 10 outings this term – suspended after his red card in the surprising 3-3 draw with Norwegian side Viking. Harry Kane faces the club he may or may not have supported as a boy, and will look to extend Bayern's run of 24 consecutive Champions League games in which they've scored.
If the German champions have been in rare attacking form (25 goals scored in their past six games), the Gunners have been more circumspect. Since a 3-0 shellacking at Brighton, Arteta has returned to the control-first mantra that secured last term's Premier League title with a 1-0 weekend win at Nottingham Forest coming from their only shot on target. A one-time coach of Kompany's on the Manchester City backroom staff, the Basque boss saw his side beat Lille 3-0 last time out in this competition and will consider giving Sunday matchwinner Noni Madueke a start after Ebere Eze struggled.

What to know about Northern Ireland Open 2026
Why is Mark Allen going viral on social media?
Snooker star Mark Allen is going viral after breaking down in an emotional TV interview at the 2026 Northern Ireland Open, revealing that he recently spend 10 weeks in a mental health clinic (before checking himself out to play in the Northern Ireland Open).
The 40-year-old Northern Irish cueist was visibly emotional following his 4–2 first-round defeat to close friend Jordan Brown on Tuesday, October 20. Speaking to TNT Sports presenter Rachel Casey, Allen admitted he was in a "bad place" and questioned whether he could continue playing the sport he has loved since childhood.
The interview became particularly emotional when Casey hugged him and offered words of encouragement.
Who was Alex Higgins?
Alex “Hurricane” Higgins was one of snooker's greatest entertainers, renowned for his fiery temperament and mercurial talent on the green baize. Born in Belfast on March 18, 1949, he became world champion at just 22 in 1972, before winning again in 1982, when he famously called for 'his baby'. His 69-point clearance against Jimmy White in the 1982 semi-final remains one of snooker's best breaks – particularly the 'banana' blue, where he whipped the cueball off the cushion and back down to the reds. Higgins also won two Masters titles and the 1983 UK Championship. Despite many personal struggles, he helped transform snooker into a major television sport in the 1980s. He died in Belfast in 2010, aged 61. The 2026 Northern Ireland Open trophy bears his name. His life story is recounted in the unauthorized biography, "The Hurricane: The Turbulent Life and Times of Alex Higgins" by Bill Borrows.

- Como vs Man Utd kick-off: Wednesday, October 21 at 12.45pm ET / 5.45pm BST
Watch Como vs Man Utd live in the Champions League 2026/27 with Michael Carrick under increasing pressure to deliver a win as he takes his side to the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. Waiting by the glistening banks of Lake Como is one-time Red Devil target Cesc Fabregas, in charge of the club's maiden tournament appearance less than 20 years since they were in the fifth tier.
The former Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder has had an on-off association with Como since 2022, taking interim charge while the club were in Serie B before returning after their promotion to the top fight in 2024. Fourth in the Italian top flight last term, the Lariani are in major continental competition for the first time in history and sit fifth in Serie A after beating Napoli and Fiorentina already this term. Anastasios Douvikas has scored in both Champions League games – a 4-1 win against RB Leipzig and 3-2 defeat by Feyenoord – while ex-Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has impressed but misses out today through injury.
Carrick has a major defensive headache, with Leny Yoro suspended and Ayden Heaven, Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez all injury doubts — Matthijs de Ligt starts his first game in 11 month as a result. The latter, who has apologized for his scathing attack on club suits after the 2-0 Champions League defeat by Atletico Madrid, went off at half-time of the weekend draw with Leeds that extended United winless run to six games in all competitions. Carrick will look to Bryan Mbeumo and captain Bruno Fernandes, who have seven goals between them in all competitions this term, for inspiration and a much-needed win.
Read on as we explain how to watch Como vs Man Utd in the Champions League 2026/27 for free.

Can’t make it to the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art for the 'Star Wars' display? This is the companion book set you’re looking for!

Housed in a sturdy slipcase, readers will discover a pair of lavishly illustrated volumes spanning 832 pages and tipping the scales at nearly 14 pounds. At $200 for the pair, it's not cheap, but look on the bright side; hoisting these illustrated tomes will save you a subscription to your local gym!
This immersive collection documents in great detail the astounding scope of rare items on display in Lucas’s treasury of paintings, murals, photographs, sculptures, posters, comic strips, illustrations, costumes, and magazine covers that have spurred humankind’s imagination.

We'd absolutely recommend checking out the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in person if you can.
Our own Chelsea Gohd visited the Los Angeles-based museum ahead of its opening in September 2026 and adored it. But if you're not a California local, getting lost in this collection's glossy pages is the next best thing to roaming the museum exhibitions on a rainy afternoon.
Far beyond a mere companion to the marvels inside the fantastic spaceship-shaped building poised near the University of Southern California campus — the same institution where Lucas attended film school in the late 1960s — these bold editions are an adventure in their own right.
Waiting to be absorbed is an impressive assortment of storytelling expression that showcases beautiful works by everyone from Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, and Norman Rockwell to Frank Frazetta, Jack Kirby, and Ralph McQuarrie. Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, curated the museum’s contents that represent decades of collecting narrative art in all of its forms.
Our friends at Taschen were gracious enough to send us one of these Lucas Museum of Narrative Art special editions, and in unboxing this magnificent pair of books, one can feel the quality in the deluxe binding and thick covers. Inside you’ll find an eye-popping array of full-color photography and sharp descriptions for hundreds of artworks, all hand-picked by Lucas and Hobson.
Lucas himself delivers the preface, which is titled "The Art of Story," where he professes his love of art, myth, anthropology, illustrators, and cinema. He recalls when he came to meet his mentor, Professor Joseph Campbell, and how he amassed 40,000 pieces of art beginning when he was a student at USC.
The great director Guillermo del Toro provides a heartfelt foreword praising the importance of the museum and these prestigious companion volumes depicting a multitude of visual wonders.
Between the duo of volumes, sections are divided into chapters dealing with topics such as history, children's stories, the American West, everyday life, romance and adventure, photography, science fiction and fantasy, and, of course, Star Wars in Motion.
They take you on an overwhelming journey through the gallery’s incredibly diverse holdings, not least of which are archival items and concept art chronicling Lucas's involvement in the galaxy far, far away.
This remarkable "Star Wars" section will be of particular interest to sci-fi aficionados, as it contains 100 pages of original props, paintings, concept artwork, costumes, models, and digital renderings created by some of Lucasfilm and Industrial Light and Magic’s best and brightest talents.
Taken with the rest of the 832 combined pages of Taschen's ambitious release that fully captures the dizzying breadth of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, it's a brilliant keepsake to spark your soul and imagination.
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art two-book collection is available now via Taschen's website and Amazon.

New 'Blade Runner 2099' trailer is a space fan's dream with sinister starships and strange exoplanets (video)
Cue the depressing rain, dark trench coats, and a dire dystopian dirge because the Blade Runner 2099 trailer is here!
Cyberpunk is charging back in confident fashion with Prime Video's latest detour into the neon-drenched dystopia of humans and rogue replicants first introduced in director Sir Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" from 1982, then revisited in Denis Villeneuve's "Blade Runner 2049."
Arriving Nov. 25, 2026, "Blade Runner 2099"'s plot turns the tables as resentful artificial beings are now the ones running the show and hunting down Earth’s humans after a successful uprising against their original makers.
This newest atmospheric trailer was unveiled at last week’s New York Comic-Con and has us totally jacked to re-immerse ourselves in that noirish futuristic realm.
Check it out below:
It’s executive produced by showrunner Silka Louisa ("Shining Girls”) and stars Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh ("Everything Everywhere All at Once") as Olwen, playing a fading replicant Blade Runner who joins forces with Hunter Schafer’s ("Euphoria") Cora, a pure human on the run attempting to evade a squad of exterminating Blade Runners while examining their existential natures.
But aside from the dazzling visuals of the City of Angels at the gates of the 22nd century, fans will also be strapping in for some cool outer space action, as evidenced by fresh footage delivering some arresting scenes of space travel, off-world planets, and Yeoh in a bizarre helmet.
"Blade Runner 2099"'s cast includes Dimitri Abold ("The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes") and Lewis Gribben ("Somewhere Boy”) alongside Katelyn Rose Downey ("The Nun II"), Daniel Rigby ('Renegade Nell"), Johnny Harris ("A Gentleman in Moscow"), Amy Lennox ("Only Child"), Sheila Atim ("The Woman King") and Matthew Needham ("House of the Dragon”).
Launching with an 8-episode debut season and executive produced by Scott Free Productions, "Blade Runner 2099" and its new world order lands on Prime Video on Nov. 25, 2026.
The X-Files Lego set is a wonderful bit of 90s sci-fi nostalgia
Millennials get a lot of flak for being overly nostalgic, but I don't think that's fair. When the modern-day world has nothing to offer us but AI slop, shrinkflation and a sad acceptance that we can't be bothered to do anything about global warming. It's easy to see why we yearn for the days of Pogs, the Backstreet Boys, and Saved by the Bell.
One area that we definitely had it good in the 90s was sci-fi, when legendary shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Stargate SG-1, and — of course — The X-Files ruled our TV screens long before the age of streaming services. You can relive those glory days of alien conspiracies, spooky happenings and cell phones the size of a brick with the Lego Ideas The X-Files set.
This 1478 piece set is essentially two dioramas crammed into a single display piece. The top of the model depicts a spinning UFO floating above one of those iconic coniferous forests that dominated 90s sci-fi. Why? Because — thanks to some generous tax credits — it was cheaper to shoot in Vancouver, so that's where they all flocked.

Disney Plus / Hulu bundle: was $12.99 now $11.99
Catch Mulder and Scully in every season of The X-Files on Hulu, which is available bundled with Disney+ for only $11.99/month for the first six months, then increasing to $12.99/month.View Deal

Beneath the woodland scene, though, is the real star of the show: Mulder's office, squirrelled away in the basement of the FBI's J. Edgar Hoover Building in Washington, D.C. This dingy little office is where Scully meets "Spooky Mulder", kicking off a glorious sci-fi odyssey that would last for eleven seasons (and two movies).
Mulder's dingy little base of operations has been stunningly recreated here, with both overt references and subtle nods that X-Files fans will appreciate. The iconic "I want to believe" poster adorns the wall, alongside photographs of crop circles and a newspaper clipping from a paper called "The Lone Brickman" — a nice nod to "The Lone Gunmen". There's even an actual X-File sitting on the desk, and a cute Lego spoof of the "Face on Mars", with a photo on the wall that shows a Lego head on the moon.

The X-Files Complete Boxset: $160
Prefer to actually own your media? Make your way through this X-Files Complete Boxset on DVD. Just bear in mind that you will need a region-free DVD player to watch it with.

It's been a hot minute since I watched The X-Files (that DVD box set beside my TV is calling to me), but even so, I had a blast building my way down memory lane, remembering episodes as I assembled the diorama. I love the little touches, like the display cabinets filled with artifacts, the VHS tapes scattered around the office and the black oil spillage on the floor.
As with most Lego sets, the minifigures are half the joy. You get Mulder and Scully, obviously, with the dynamic duo of FBI agents both rocking flashlights (no smartphones with built-in lights back in the 90s). Mulder is wearing dark blue, while Scully is rocking an orangey brown suit, with both of them sporting an FBI badge.
Outside of the principal pair, you also get Skinner, Mr X, and the Cigarette Smoking Man. Mulder's partner-turned-nemesis Alex Krycek also gets a suitably devious-looking minifig. It's the gloves, they just make him look like a bad man (which, to be fair, he is). Finally, to ramp up the paranormal scale, we also get a pair of monster minifigs: a grey alien and Flukeman minifigures. The grey alien was a must-have, especially given the UFO floating atop this display piece, but the one-off monster of the week, Flukeman, felt like a weird choice.

Also, this John Doggett erasure will not stand. Sure, he could never replace Mulder, but Robert Patrick's seasons eight and nine run was excellent and he deserved a spot here.
And while I'm voicing minor gripes, the usual Lego FOMO tricks were in force with this set; if you pre-ordered, you got an exclusive gift set — Scully's Lab — free of charge. This extra little diorama isn't necessary, but it does feel like the collection is incomplete without it and it's not for sale separately, so you'll have to try your luck with eBay scalpers if you want it.
Speaking of Scully, Gillian Anderson has stated that after season 11 wrapped in 2018, she was done with the role. That wasn't entirely accurate, though, as she donned the lab gloves one more time for the Lego X-Files set advert. It's a short bit of fan service, but a nice touch, and, once again, it sparks those 90s neurons.
All these delicious Member Berries come at a price, though, and that's the price. This blast from the past will set you back $199 (£179 in the UK). That's no small chunk of change. But then again, anyone who wants this set is in their thirties or forties and can probably afford that outlay for the nostalgia trip. And look at it this way: when The X-Files debuted back in 1993, the price would only have been about $86.
I had a great time building the Lego X-Files set and if you're a fan of the series, you will too. Nostalgia often feels like a cheat code to our hearts, but there's nothing wrong with that. We deserve to remember the good times and the truth is that The X-Files was about as good as it ever got for sci-fi fans.
You can buy the Lego X-Files set now, available for $199/£179 from the Lego store.

'Lanterns' shocking finale left us with a lot of unanswered questions for a potential season 2
HBO and HBO Max's "Lanterns" served up its big cliffhanger finale on Oct. 4, 2026, and we’ve been slowly digesting thoughts on what the creative direction and ultimate legacy of this debut season were.
While by no means a perfect experiment in trying to shake up the aging superhero genre, there are enough worthy elements to consider this sci-fi mystery show an evolutionary step towards the next generation of comic-based storytelling.
After the emerald-tinted dust has settled, there are many lingering questions about where this acclaimed series from creators Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King might be headed and where the twists and turns might lead for a sophomore season should it be greenlit (get it?) for a triumphant return.
Warning: Major Spoilers For "Lanterns" Season 1 Ahead!

One of "Lanterns"' standout achievements is revealing the true costs of superheroism by deconstructing its DNA and examining the ugly guts of it all.
It dives into the fear, trauma, and seduction that drive humans to take up the serious business of protecting the universe and doling out justice against both Earth-bound evil and intergalactic threats. "Lanterns" also explores mental health issues and PTSD that are the inevitable byproducts of a life of unimaginable violence. The compelling series achieves a provocative dissection of it all with rare confidence without the overindulgence of distracting CGI tossed in for sheer spectacle.
It might not have been exactly the Green Lantern TV series fans wanted, but it was the show we got, and kinda the show we needed. Sure, for a series about a noble order of intergalactic space cops, we were treated to very little cosmic action, and instead we're given a grounded slow-burn police procedural à la "True Detective."
As I said before, it's not perfect, but we shouldn’t dismiss "Lanterns" for its mild shortcomings when it gets so much right. We're willing a second season into existence, and with an average of 20 million global viewers and solid reviews, HBO/HBO Max would be very wise to bring it back.
Whether a second season shifts into the heavens to rocket off on an outer space trajectory for a follow-up season is yet to be seen. For now, though, the Lanterns season one finale has left us with plenty of questions to ponder.
Is Hal Jordan really dead?

"Lanterns"' season finale revealed that Kerry, in an unhinged moment of maternal panic trying to protect her mutant son, Noah, had put a bullet in Hal's head. RIP to the original Green Lantern... or is it?
Kyle Chandler was a fantastic choice to play Hal Jordan, and he brought a charismatic gravitas and twisted sense of humor to the storied comic character. His sudden death in Rushville, frozen in the bleachers of the high school football stadium, certainly looked final, but this is the wild topsy-turvy universe of superheroes, so anything is possible.
And don’t forget that the newly-freed Thaal Sinestro (Ulrich Thomsen) told the AI “Halogram” and Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart on Antaan's dead planet that the magical green ring could be used to restore Hal’s life. But Sinestro is a sly, slippery foe and is never to be trusted!
Online speculation has proposed that Hal Jordan might be revived and enter the series as Parallax, the living embodiment of fear, but that’s not likely according to the series creators. What’s more probable is that we either see Chandler's Hal Jordan revived, or he'll just turn up in occasional flashbacks or Halogram pop-in scenes.
John Stewart goes rogue?

With his unsanctioned lantern battery now in hand to power his ring, Stewart has become an independent contractor protecting Earth for Guy Gardner’s (Nathan Fillion) Sector 2814.
Fortified with the Sinestro-forged yellow charging unit deemed illegal by the Guardians and the broader members of the Green Lantern Corps., this unattached Lantern is now free to make sure Noah doesn’t turn to the dark side and lean into his evil Manhunter programming.
Will Stewart be seduced into the path of corruption by using Sinestro’s emotionally tainted battery, or steel himself against ill influences and continue to blaze his own trail as Earth's sole protector for the time being?
As a gold-toothed Gardner tells Stewart, "When I take this bull**** up back to Oa, they’re gonna send an army to put you down." This sounds like the perfect setup for an eventful "Lanterns" season 2 where the Lantern Corps come to take Jordan in, dead or alive. It’ll be interesting to see which of the infamous space cops they eventually send. This ain't over!
Noah Macon the Manhunter

Sheriff Kerry Kane (Kelly Macdonald) and the dorky Billy Macon’s (Jason Ritter) immaculately conceived son, Noah, is outed as a Human-Manhunter hybrid that came into being after Kerry’s initial encounter with Manhunter Zoe years ago.
He might be one helluva gunslinging high school quarterback now, but that pales in comparison to what he could become using his frightful shapeshifting Manhunter genes inherited from his grandmother.
With his new Nebraska collegiate ball cap and now headed off to university, the sleeper agent has some vital decisions to make way beyond declaring a major. His desire will be to wipe out the Green Lanterns and the Guardians, but Earthly domination might come first unless he pledges to subdue his instincts and lead a normal life. And is Noah really the last Manhunter, or are there legions more ready to activate?
Sinestro's fate?

Spazkaban (or Space Azkaban), the notorious cosmic penitentiary controlled by the Guardians, lost one of its most lethal inhabitants in the crimson-skinned Sinestro when Noah (Shea Pritchard), the nascent Manhunter, broke him out of jail to craft him a yellow fear-based lantern.
This persuasive villain was last seen wrapped in chains in the season finale, "Dirt and Stars," being dunked in the waters of madness by Stewart on the poison planet after a portal hop, before trying to coerce Halogram to deliver the prized ring for Jordan's resurrection.
Avid comic fans know Sinestro once commanded his own intergalactic corp that fed upon the addictive yellow glare of fear instead of the emerald light’s will-imposed power.
Will he unite with Noah to take down the manipulative Guardians of the Universe and their legion of space-bound enforcers, the Green Lanterns? Will Noah break bad or go good? And is it possible for Sinestro to forge another yellow lantern and a custom companion ring to escape captivity? As Sinestro explains, "If harnessed correctly, fear can be the most powerful force in the universe."
Shards of "Lanterns" will invariably bleed over into James Gunn's "Superman" sequel, "Man of Tomorrow," which soars to theaters on July 9, 2027, so there’s still a lot of life left in DC Studios' DCU.
All 8 episodes of "Lanterns" season 1 are available on HBO and HBO Max.

'Dark Matter's' Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly talk S2's marital disintegration and the humility of hanging on wires (interview)
The eighth episode of Apple TV's "Dark Matter" season 2 has just dropped, and we're all on the edge of our seats trying to guess how the strange saga of Jason (Joel Edgerton) and Daniela (Jennifer Connelly) Dessen is going to finish up. Not even fans of the books know, as this superb adaptation of NYT bestselling author Blake Crouch's 2016 novel broke out of its source material for season 2.
For Edgerton and Connelly, "Dark Matter" has been a whirlwind project as their characters search for a safe alternate universe while being pursued by a multiplicity of Jasons. The physical rigors and emotional toll of shooting the show and presenting its nuanced storytelling often proved difficult.
"There's two exhaustions that I’ve found in movie work," Edgerton tells Space. "It's either mental exhaustion from going to dark emotional places in your brain or complex dialogue stuff. Then there's the physical challenges, like for doing a fight scene. One of the weirdest ones on 'Dark Matter' was doing a gravity scene where we’re dangling on wires inside The Box. There's something deeply exhausting about it and a bit humiliating. You feel like a human teabag."

Connelly was also a part of that tough sequence and reflects on Edgerton’s tireless fortitude.
"Joel's schedule on this show is really brutal," she notes. "He's in almost all of it. This season is better, but season 1 was crazy for him. It’s surprising; sometimes the things that are most difficult are the ones you don’t anticipate. That's more exhausting at the end of the day after trying to get something to work that you didn’t think would be tricky. I like the days that are tiring because you feel drained because you’ve explored a lot in a scene. That's a nice feeling."
For Edgerton, the simplest thing to remember is that when practicing your craft, always make sure that you go home each day feeling satisfied with what you shot.
"There's nothing worse than going home and thinking that you didn’t get the best out of yourself," he reveals. "As they say, as actors we're not digging trenches. It's not hard physical labor; it's a different kind of thing. Until actually I shot a movie where I had to dig a trench."
Working with Blake Crouch on the series and its unnerving portrait of a marriage strewn across the infinite multiverse has produced new insights into their own lives.
"I find there’s something to be learned from each experience as an actor," notes Edgerton. "Each story takes you through something, whether you like to think it or not.
"You either learn a skill or meet an actor that you admire, and they teach you something inspired by their presence. We were tasked with helping Blake build the disintegration of a marriage, and it's the opposite of what you’re hoping for in real life. That each day you hope you're turning up contributing in a positive way to your relationship rather than engineering its demise. It makes you think about how you can be a better person in life. And there's always room for improvement."

Likewise, Connelly sees a sort of emotional mirroring effect to be absorbed that extends beyond "Dark Matter's" detailed sets, dizzying locations, and sound stages.
"I think Daniela, at a point when Jason is going down paths, and they're struggling, recognizes that sometimes it's hard to distinguish what is really the other person and what we’re bringing to our perception of them," she adds.
"She has things in her history that bias her vision, and she takes herself off on a journey to reconcile those things and try to take responsibility for healing. And that's a good lesson to remember in relationships in general. Being on top of one's own part of the dynamic. Sometimes things we see in each other are really things within ourselves."
"Dark Matter" season 2 airs each Friday exclusively on Apple TV, with the season finale (and perhaps the series end if not renewed) arriving on Oct. 30, 2026.
