Old Reddit Now Requires Logging In

Scharon Harding (Slashdot):

Reddit will start requiring people to be logged into Reddit to use old.reddit.com.

The new requirement will take effect β€œover the next month,” a Reddit employee going by the username boat-botany announced on the social media platform today. The person claimed that the change is part of an ongoing effort to β€œtighten how automated systems access Reddit.”

There was no way to skip, bypass, or close the overlay. It did not provide any instructions or alternatives for continuing to use the mobile web version. What it did offer was a large button I could press to get the app. If I did so, the overlay told me, I would be able to "search better" and "personalize your feed"β€”two things I don't care to do.
