iOS 27.0.1 and iPadOS 27.0.1

Juli Clover (iOS/iPadOS release notes, no security, iOS/iPadOS enterprise, no developer):

According to Apple’s release notes, iOS 27.0.1 addresses an issue that could cause Face ID not to work properly on the iPhone 18 Pro.

Some iPhone 18 Pro users have complained that authentication can fail to work for things like unlocking a locked app. In some cases, the device freezes up and then reboots. Other users have seen a β€œ Face ID is Not Available” message when attempting Face ID setup, and others have experienced issues with the Require Attention for Face ID setting.

Juli Clover:

Apple’s security support pages say there was a CoreGraphics out-of-bounds write issue that could be exploited with a maliciously crafted file, allowing for arbitrary code execution. […] Apple says the flaw was exploited in an β€œextremely sophisticated attack” on targeted individuals running older versions of iOS.

Absolutely shocking to me how this is always my experience with Apple’s search functionalities

Update (2026-10-21): Benjamin Mayo:

Just a matter of days after iOS 27 has been released to the public, people have already discovered a way to temporarily brick your phone with a quick series of swipes on the home screen. And it’s starting to going viral on social media as some kind of iPhone prank to do on your friends.

Luckily, it is only a software soft-lock and you can easily get out of this temporarily bricked state by force rebooting your phone.

It will apparently be fixed in iOS 27.2.

iOS 26.7 and iPadOS 26.7

Juli Clover (iOS/iPadOS release notes, security, no enterprise, no developer):

According to Apple’s release notes, iOS 26.7 includes security fixes, but it does not have any other features.

Apple will eventually show iOS 27 as the main update for the iPhone, but that likely won’t happen for a few weeks. Users who want to stay on iOS 26 for the time being can do so by opting for iOS 26.7 instead of iOS 27 .

The iCloud Private Relay bug that leaks the IP isn’t mentioned, although it had been fixed.

iOS 26.6.1 and iPadOS 26.6.1

Joe Rossignol (iOS/iPadOS release notes, security, no enterprise, no developer):

Apple today released iOS 26.6.1, iPadOS 26.6.1, visionOS 26.6.1, and macOS 26.6.2, with all of the updates containing security fixes.

Apple also released iOS 18.7.10 and iPadOS 18.7.10 with security fixes.

The version numbers are now out of sync with macOS because macOS 26.6.1 fixed an important screen sharing vulnerability a few weeks ago.

Juli Clover:

There are fixes for an audio vulnerability that could allow an app to leak sensitive user information, an image vulnerability that could allow for arbitrary code execution, a trio of kernel vulnerabilities, and several WebKit bugs that could cause memory corruption or Safari crashes. Of the 29 CVEs outlined in the document, 21 are WebKit-related, and nine are credited to OpenAI Codex Security.

On iOS, Apple also fixed a telephony bug that could allow an attacker in a privileged network position to bypass IPSec authentication and intercept network traffic.

iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6

Juli Clover (iOS/iPadOS release notes, security, enterprise, developer):

iOS 26.6 and iPadOS 26.6 include security fixes for the iPhone and iPad. The updates also optimize the Spotlight index in preparation for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.

There are a lot of security fixes.

Rosyna Keller:

Yay, iOS 26.6 is out. And it fixes a privacy leak I filed in April that allowed malicious apps/Ad SDKs to track a user across apps.

Yesterday’s iOS update fixed the battery problem that I’ve had for the past couple of months. My iPhone 16 Pro Max would not make it a full day on a single charge.
