Tesla pushes unsupervised FSD to Q2 2027, and only inside Robotaxi zones

21 October 2026 at 23:18

Tesla now says unsupervised “Full Self-Driving” in customer-owned cars will arrive in Q2 2027. It’s the latest date on a promise Elon Musk has been making to FSD buyers for the better part of a decade.

But there’s a catch. On Tesla’s Q3 2026 earnings call today, AI chief Ashok Elluswamy described it as owners adding their own vehicles to Tesla’s managed Robotaxi fleet, not owners getting a car that drives them anywhere they want to go.

PLOS Issues Expression of Concern for Yangtze River Delta Study

21 October 2026 at 23:17

The PLOS One editors have issued an expression of concern for a 2024 case study concerning the digital economy, innovation factor allocation and industrial structure transformation in China’s Yangtze River Delta city cluster. The notice, published on October 21, 2026, states that the article was identified as one of a series of submissions for which the journal has concerns about the integrity or reliability of the peer-review process. Readers are advised to interpret the original study with this issue in mind.

The notice does not report a new scientific finding, identify an error in the paper or evaluate the study’s scientific validity. According to the editors, PLOS did not assess the article’s integrity or scientific validity when following up on the matter. The expression of concern therefore records a concern about the circumstances surrounding peer review rather than announcing that the study’s data, methods or conclusions have been disproved. The editors also state that they have no concerns regarding the authors’ conduct during the peer-review process.

The affected article was published in PLOS One in 2024 under the title “Digital economy, innovation factor allocation and industrial structure transformation—A case study of the Yangtze River Delta city cluster in China.” The supplied notice does not provide the study’s findings, population details, analytical methods, model estimates, uncertainty measures or specific mechanisms linking the subjects named in the title. As a result, the notice does not support conclusions about the relationship between digital-economy development, innovation factors and industrial structure in the region, nor does it establish whether any reported association or causal effect is reliable.

For the wider research record, the immediate effect is that the 2024 article is accompanied by an editorial notice questioning the integrity or reliability of its peer-review process. The notice does not provide details about the submissions or explain the specific basis for the journal’s concerns. It also does not announce a correction, replacement analysis or revised conclusion. The central status of the paper’s scientific validity remains unevaluated in the supplied material, while the issue is sufficiently significant for PLOS One to advise readers to consider it when interpreting the study.

Nurse-led urology clinic records 14,013 registrations in descriptive study

21 October 2026 at 23:17

A nurse-led chronic disease management clinic in the urology department of a tertiary hospital recorded 14,013 outpatient registrations between July 2024 and September 2026, according to a single-center retrospective descriptive study using routinely collected service records. The clinic primarily supported long-term management of patients with prostate and bladder cancer while also providing specialty nursing services for other urological conditions. Its follow-up system marked 3,547 of 3,553 assigned tasks as successful, a task-level success rate of 99.83%. These figures describe service activity and record completion; the study did not measure whether the clinic improved clinical outcomes or economic performance.

The clinic was established in July 2024 within the hospital’s existing specialty nursing outpatient service framework. Its operating model included staffing and qualification requirements, professional training, clearly defined nursing responsibilities, physician–nurse collaboration, standardized procedures, information-system support and quality management. Nurses worked within their authorized scope of practice, while urologists participated in medical assessment and treatment decisions when required. The service had four reported components: patient assessment and follow-up planning; treatment follow-up and adverse-event monitoring; rehabilitation guidance and health promotion; and assistance with healthcare policies and basic nursing care.

Monthly registrations increased from 147 in July 2024 to a peak of 710 in August 2026, with fluctuations during the reporting period. Total registration fees were CNY 152,758. The clinic delivered 14,246 prostate cancer-related injections, 3,523 urinary catheterizations, 2,777 intravesical instillation procedures and 2,142 urinary catheter removals. It also assisted patients with prostate or bladder cancer in applying for outpatient chronic and special disease insurance benefits. The study reports these counts as routine service activities, but it did not compare the procedures with those delivered elsewhere or evaluate their individual clinical effects.

Follow-up management was integrated into the clinic’s information system, which contained records for 1,111 patients. Of these, 953 patients had been followed up and 951 had successful follow-up records. Nurses also executed 3,553 follow-up tasks, of which 3,547 were successful, corresponding to the reported 99.83% task-level rate. The descriptive data do not specify the duration or effectiveness of patient follow-up, assess whether missed contacts influenced treatment adherence or health outcomes, or establish how the results would compare with another care model.

Because the research covered one tertiary hospital and relied on routinely collected records, it cannot establish how the clinic would operate in smaller facilities, under different staffing arrangements or in other health systems. The findings offer a documented example of a nurse-led outpatient service with defined responsibilities, standardized workflows, follow-up documentation and collaboration with urologists. The authors stated that further research is needed to evaluate the model’s clinical outcomes and economic implications. Accordingly, the registration growth, procedural workload and high proportion of completed follow-up tasks should be interpreted as descriptions of implementation and recorded service delivery, not as evidence of improved survival, fewer complications, lower costs or other patient benefits.

Survey links three capabilities with Indonesian welfare-data integration

21 October 2026 at 23:09

A survey-based study of 246 village-level social welfare data operators found that business architecture, cross-organizational collaboration and technological readiness were positively and statistically significantly associated with perceived e-government integration impact in two Indonesian regencies. The research, focused on Gunung Kidul and Bangkalan, examined organizational, institutional, relational and technological capabilities associated with social welfare data integration. Governance and leadership and information policy did not show statistically significant direct relationships with perceived integration impact in the pooled sample.

The authors analyzed the survey with partial least squares structural equation modeling. In their framework, e-government integration impact, or EGII, represents perceived improvements in information, system and service quality, responsiveness and public trust. E-government integration scope, or EGIS, describes the breadth of integration across data, applications, electronic communication and knowledge-sharing processes.

EGII was strongly associated with EGIS, meaning that operators reporting more favorable perceived integration outcomes also tended to report broader integration. Because this was an observational analysis of survey responses, the results establish statistical relationships rather than causal effects. The findings identify three capabilities with significant direct relationships to EGII in the pooled model: business architecture, cross-organizational collaboration and technological readiness.

The evidence does not provide operational definitions for these constructs, but the results show that their measured levels were associated with respondents’ assessments of e-government integration outcomes. By contrast, governance and leadership and information policy had no statistically significant direct relationships with EGII in that analysis. This absence of a detected direct relationship does not establish that the two factors are unimportant or that they operate only through indirect pathways, because the supplied findings do not report such indirect effects.

A regency-based robustness analysis found that some relationships were sensitive to local implementation conditions. Significant differences between Gunung Kidul and Bangkan were reported for the technological-readiness-to-EGII relationship and the EGII-to-EGIS relationship. The geographic comparison therefore cautions against assuming that the same capability relationships apply uniformly across the two regencies, although it does not identify the specific local practices responsible for those differences.

Its direct contribution is to show which measured interoperability capabilities were associated with perceived integration impact in the surveyed population, alongside evidence that some relationships varied between the two regencies.

Survey identifies barriers to care for hyperemesis gravidarum

21 October 2026 at 23:03

Women surveyed about their treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, reported delayed or missed diagnoses, inadequate clinician knowledge of treatment guidelines, denied or discontinued medicines, and structural barriers restricting access to appropriate care. The qualitative study of 189 women, published in the Journal of Pharmacy Practice and Research, found that these experiences accompanied enduring emotional and psychological effects, including anxiety and post-traumatic stress syndrome. Associate Professor Luke Grzeskowiak, who led the research team at Flinders University, said the condition affects almost 4% of pregnancies.

The survey identified several issues affecting how hyperemesis gravidarum is recognised and treated. Participants described clinicians who lacked suitable training to diagnose the condition and who were either unaware of clinical management guidelines or did not follow them. Some women said they were not diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum when they should have been, while others reported receiving a diagnosis only late in the course of their illness. Other participants said health professionals denied prescribing or dispensing medications. The researchers also identified educational and financial status as possible influences on treatment outcomes, together with systemic barriers within Australia’s healthcare system.

Misinformation about medicine safety further disrupted care for some participants. Some women said they stopped taking medication after reading reported safety concerns that the researchers said were not aligned with current research and management guidelines. Participants also described poor management of medication side effects, including constipation and mood disorders. Current treatment focuses on supportive care and on medicines, including antiemetics, that address nausea and vomiting. Nevertheless, women reported that their symptoms were often not taken seriously and that clinicians in several professions commonly lacked appropriate education and training to recognise and manage hyperemesis gravidarum.

The study documented emotional and psychological effects during and after the illness. Participants cited impaired quality of life, anxiety and post-traumatic stress syndrome. The researchers said some women reported that hyperemesis gravidarum influenced their decision to terminate an otherwise wanted pregnancy, while others said the trauma of a previous episode left them afraid to consider another pregnancy. Collectively, the researchers proposed improving experiences and outcomes through better education for health practitioners, greater public awareness, clearer clinical practice guidelines, expanded outpatient care, investment in specialist hyperemesis gravidarum clinics and services, changes to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, and strategies to improve medicine availability and affordability. Because the research was a qualitative survey based on reported experiences and perceptions, it does not quantify how frequently these barriers occur among all pregnancies affected by the condition.

Tesla energy revenue drops 16% as it refunds customers over tariffs

21 October 2026 at 22:18

Tesla’s energy business deployed more batteries in Q3 2026 but brought in less money. Energy generation and storage revenue fell 16% year-over-year to $2.88 billion, even though storage deployments rose 10% to 13.7 GWh.

Tesla’s shareholder letter blames the drop “partially” on “tariff-related customer refunds.” It doesn’t say how much it refunded, to which customers, or why it was accounted for as reduced revenue.

Nocturne Cast Reunites for New York Premiere Ahead of Apple TV Debut

21 October 2026 at 22:13

Apple TV brought Nocturne to New York City on October 20, hosting the crime drama’s world premiere at Regal Union Square. Liev Schreiber, Zazie Beetz, and Stephen Graham attended the event ahead of the series’ October 30 streaming debut, following the first-look announcement covered in AppleMagazine’s introduction to Nocturne.

The red carpet screening marks the latest step toward the show’s release. For viewers, the distinction between the two dates is straightforward: the New York event celebrated the production, while general streaming availability begins the following week.

The Ensemble Comes Together in New York

According to Apple’s premiere announcement, attendees also included Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, Poorna Jagannathan, Gary Carr, and Landon Valentin. Writer, showrunner, and executive producer John Hlavin joined the cast.

Apple’s photographs document the gathering, including appearances by the three leads together and members of the wider ensemble. The event provides a fresh occasion to revisit the series as its release approaches, rather than announcing a change to its previously established schedule.

That timing is particularly useful for anyone who encountered the project when its first images appeared in July. The cast and premise are now attached to a specific viewing plan, with the opening episodes arriving before the end of October.

A Detective’s Search Becomes Personal

Schreiber plays Jonah Lynn, a former soldier and homicide detective who leaves Philadelphia for a quieter life in western Pennsylvania. That retreat is threatened by serial killer Jurek Walter, played by Graham.

Beetz portrays FBI agent Saga Bauer, whom Jonah regards as a surrogate daughter. The search for a missing victim places her in direct confrontation with Jurek, bringing Jonah’s personal loyalties into the investigation.

The official Apple TV listing supplies another part of the setup: a person believed to have been one of Jurek’s victims unexpectedly turns up alive, prompting the effort to locate someone still missing.

Together, those elements establish a thriller built around both discovery and risk. The investigation has a concrete objective, while Jonah’s relationship with Saga gives the decisions surrounding it a personal cost. How the series develops that tension will become clearer when the episodes are available.

Two Lars Kepler Novels Provide the Foundation

Nocturne draws from The Sandman and Lazarus, part of the crime-fiction series published under the name Lars Kepler.

As the authors’ official website explains, Lars Kepler is the shared pen name of Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril. Both were established writers before beginning their collaboration.

The source novels give the adaptation an existing world of characters and relationships, but viewers should not assume that every event will transfer directly to television. Combining material from two books creates room to reorganize the story around a different dramatic structure.

For readers familiar with the novels, that makes the adaptation’s choices part of the interest. For newcomers, Apple’s synopsis provides the essential starting point without requiring advance knowledge of the books or their later revelations.

The Team Behind the Opening Episodes

Rowan Joffé created Nocturne for television and serves as a writer and executive producer. Hlavin developed the series for television and also writes and executive produces.

Tim Van Patten directs the first two episodes and serves as an executive producer. His credits include Franklin and Masters of the Air. A+E Studios produces the drama in association with Range Studios.

Schreiber and Beetz also hold executive producer roles, with Beetz participating through her Sleepy Poppy production company. The credits connect the leading performers with the production beyond their onscreen characters, while the opening episodes will establish the finished show’s pace and tone.

Nocturne Begins With Two Episodes on October 30

Apple’s announced release plan calls for a 10-episode season. The first two installments arrive together on Friday, October 30, followed by one new episode each Friday through December 25.

That gives viewers two ways to approach the series: follow the investigation weekly from launch, or wait until the season has completed its run. The New York premiere does not change that arrangement, and the full season will not be available on opening day.

For now, the event brings the ensemble together just before audiences can begin assessing the drama themselves. October 30 is the date to remember for the first public streaming episodes; December 25 marks the scheduled completion of the season.

Meta says it would’ve made over $22 billion if it didn’t have to pay a child safety settlement

21 October 2026 at 21:46
Photo illustration of a gavel about to hit the Meta logo.

Meta had to shell out $9.89 billion to pay for a chunk of the child safety settlement it reached with US attorneys general. That's according to the company's third-quarter earnings report released on Wednesday, which says Meta's income from operations would have been $22.89 billion without the settlement.

In August, Meta agreed to pay $17.1 billion to settle a massive nationwide lawsuit that claimed the company harmed children by making its social media platforms "addictive" by design. It will also only pay $5.3 billion of this amount if YouTube and TikTok implement stricter settings and safeguards for kids, which Meta also agreed to as par …

Asciugatrici ed elettrodomestici a rischio incendio: quali sono i più pericolosi in casa?

21 October 2026 at 21:45

Tesla FSD ‘subscriptions’ hit 1.74M, counted the way Musk’s pay package wants

21 October 2026 at 21:45

Tesla says it now has 1.74 million active “Full Self-Driving” subscriptions, up 67% from a year ago. A footnote in its Q3 2026 shareholder letter explains how it gets there: the metric follows “our 2025 CEO Performance Award” and “includes both upfront payment and monthly subscriptions.”

So owners who bought FSD outright, some of them years ago, count as subscribers. That matters because 10 million active FSD subscriptions is one of the milestones Elon Musk has to hit to earn his 2025 pay package. It also matters because hundred of thousands of those FSD “subscribers” were sold unsupervised self-driving, which Tesla has yet to deliver.

Tesla blames battery supply for flat sales, but its prices keep falling

21 October 2026 at 21:39

Tesla says battery supply, not demand, is what’s holding back its car sales. In its Q3 2026 shareholder letter, the automaker wrote that “battery availability continued to be the limiting factor in increasing auto volumes in the quarter.”

It also claims it ended Q3 with “the largest backlog for our passenger vehicles in four years.” But the numbers in the same letter don’t line up with a company that has more buyers than cars.
