5 August 2026 at 14:15

Today, we will take a closer look at Russia’s new Volna Kupol Garant electronic warfare (EW) system, which has recently attracted significant attention in the media. Is it truly capable of disrupting the operation of the Starlink satellite network, as claimed by Russian sources, or is it primarily another element of an information campaign? We […]

Framework Laptop 13 Pro review: Much better battery, much worse price

27 July 2026 at 16:02

I've liked the Framework Laptop 13 since the first time I used it, partly because I just think the idea of a repairable and upgradeable laptop is cool and partly because it's not Yet Another Ultraportable Trying To Be A MacBook Air Clone. But the design has always had real shortcomings—the most noticeable and serious being its mediocre battery life.

Enter the Framework Laptop 13 Pro. While all previous Laptop 13 refreshes have tinkered around the edges with the original design (a tweaked lid design here, new hinges or new speakers there), the Laptop 13 Pro is as close as we've gotten to a second-generation revision for the original design.

This means that it breaks backward compatibility for some (but not all) Laptop 13 components, most notably the bottom case, the keyboard and trackpad, and the original 55 WHr and 61 WHr battery designs. But by allowing itself to make larger changes to the design, Framework has made major strides in battery life and general fit and finish.

Replacing a Veteran: Everything You Need to Know About the Boeing–Saab T-7 Red Hawk Trainer Aircraft

27 July 2026 at 10:59

For six decades, aspiring U.S. Air Force fighter pilots have completed advanced jet training in the supersonic Northrop T-38 Talon before transitioning to frontline combat aircraft. During that time, several generations of fighters have entered service: the third-generation F-4 Phantom II gave way to the fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon, while today the Air Force is […]

Aircrafts That Never Existed: The CASA AX Training and Combat Aircraft

22 July 2026 at 16:12

I recently covered the Turkish Hürjet trainer-light attack aircraft, whose first export customer turned out to be Spain. But four decades earlier, Spain had nearly developed an aircraft of the same class itself. The project, known as the CASA AX, appeared to be a realistic proposition. So why did the Spanish effort ultimately fail? Concept […]

Everything You Need to Know About Meadowlands System: How United States Is Learning to Jam Satellites

20 July 2026 at 12:52

The U.S. Space Force has begun deploying the Meadowlands system developed by L3Harris. The new electronic warfare capability is designed to disrupt adversary satellites by transmitting high-power electromagnetic signals. The U.S. Space Force has opened a new chapter in the contest for control of orbit – not with missiles or lasers, but with a trailer-mounted antenna. Recently […]

First Shot Without a Pilot: What the YFQ-44A Flight Tests Mean for the Future of Air Combat

17 July 2026 at 11:17

Today, we’ll take a closer look at the combat trials of the YFQ-44A unmanned fighter, developed by Anduril Industries. Over the Mojave Desert, the aircraft accomplished something no operational U.S. Air Force drone had done before: it launched a live air-to-air missile at a target under the command of a remote operator who was not […]

13 July 2026 at 13:47

Following Germany, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom has also begun reorganizing its Army Aviation capabilities in light of the lessons learned from the Russia–Ukraine war. The British Ministry of Defence has announced plans to retire all 34 Wildcat AH.1 helicopters starting as early as 2027. So, what exactly are these aircraft […]

All About Long March 10B: A Falcon 9 Competitor?

10 July 2026 at 17:09

On July 10, 2026, China’s new Long March 10B rocket lifted off from the Wenchang Space Launch Site on Hainan Island. Its upper stage successfully delivered a satellite into the planned orbit, while the first stage returned to Earth just six minutes after separation – not by landing on deployable legs like the Falcon 9, and not […]

S8000 “Banderol”: How Russia Is Attempting to Offset Its Shortage of Precision-Guided Weapons with a Low-Cost Cruise Missile

9 July 2026 at 15:10

Today, I have a rather unusual guest. Let’s take a closer look at the S8000 “Banderol” – a system that some describe as a loitering munition and others classify as a cruise missile. So, what is it really? Let’s find out. The introduction of a new weapon system into an adversary’s arsenal is rarely accidental. More often […]

First One Down: The Shenyang J-8 Fighter’s Career Comes to an End

23 June 2026 at 19:15

In June of this year, the J-8 was officially phased out of service – the first jet fighter designed in China and accepted into operational use. Its path toward full maturity was long, but ultimately remained unfinished. How It All Began By the early 1960s, China had established licensed production of Soviet-designed jet fighters, including […]

Ariane 6 and Amazon Leo: How a Record-Breaking Launch Is Reshaping the Space Race Balance

19 June 2026 at 12:27

The European Ariane 6 rocket has set a new record by deploying 36 Amazon Leo satellites into orbit – more than ever before on a single mission. At first glance, this may look like a purely technical achievement. However, it reflects something broader: Europe’s return as an independent actor in the space race, intensifying competition between Amazon […]

18 June 2026 at 12:22

Recently, the Turkish aviation industry has been undergoing rapid development. In addition to an exceptionally broad range of unmanned aerial vehicles and several types of helicopters (I recently wrote about one of them – the T625 Gökbey), it is establishing production of the Hürjet jet-powered advanced trainer and light combat aircraft, while also conducting flight […]
